sleekhair

If the runways were any indication, there seems to be a return to super sleek, straight hair. Long, low ponytails were seen at Jason Wu and straight , ironed hair at Chloe, Donna Karan and Miu Miu. I’m kind of liking it, I’ve been doing beachy waves for the last few years, it’s fun to change.

It’s a fresh and sophisticated look that pairs well with the spring 2014 fashion
. Another thing I really like about this look, is that it’s simple to achieve and it’s a cool way to add a hair accessory. The only caveat is that you will need long enough hair to make a pony tail. I recently cut mine to an angled bob, which I love but doesn’t allow for this look. But the bob also looks great super straight and sleek, giving it a more dressy look.

Here is how I achieved this look for the March issue of Flare magazine:

-Blow dry with a paddle brush to make your hair smooth and straight, without volume.

-Spray with a heat protectant spray and flat iron in sections.

-Gather the hair into a low pony tail and secure with a clear elastic.

-Take a half inch section of the pony closest to your neck and wrap that around your pony tail to hide the elastic. Secure with a bobby pin by pinning back into the elastic for better grip. ( it holds best if you put the bumpy side of the pin towards the elastic )

Mist with hairspray and gently smooth all the fly-aways. Finish with a shine spray.

Add and accessory in the middle of the head or forgo the wrap around and use an accessory to cover the elastic, like in the photo above.

Rock your new do!
