Singapore

Last month I had a stop over in Singapore while I was on my trip to Asia. What an interesting place; an island nation lying between Malaysia and Indonesia, it is supremely modern and clean with a multicultural population living seemingly in perfect harmony.

A hub of commerce, it’s straits are packed with container ships, shopping and eating seem to be a national past time. Shiny skyscrapers, sophisticated shopping malls, markets, hawker’s centers (outdoor food courts), orchids and palms all coexist together on this island  located just 85 miles north of the equator.

I was in awe of this spotless, modern city in the middle of Southeast Asia and would return without hesitation.

After stuffing myself with satay and nasi goreng (my new favorite noodle dish) we went on a shopping expedition on Orchard road. It was full sale season in Singapore and the streets were crowded. The malls are beautiful oases of cool air with more shops than you can imagine and of course more food! Basement levels are food courts at their most chic and all must be tasted!

Craving something less modern, we took a tour around chinatown and little India, managing to eat a little more at a hawker’s center and the market.

The following day had us on top of the cloud forest inside the largest greenhouse I’ve ever seen at Gardens by the Bay.

Of course we must eat! At the height of sophistication on the roof top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. A surprisingly relaxed and quiet interlude atop this astonishing building.

Special mention must go to the incredible array of beauty products available! It was makeup artist heaven and affirmation that in Asia the cosmetics market is booming! ( I’ll share with you my purchases in my next post)

See you soon Singapore!
