3 Ways to Update Your Fall Makeup Look

Although you may not be ready to give up your #summerglow, a fall wardrobe calls for a slightly different approach to makeup. Fall clothes tend to give off a more put together, polished look with a richer color palette. Elevate your fall makeup look with a few small  changes for maximum impact.

I’ve rounded up my top 3 favorite makeup trends for fall 2016. Each one is easy to achieve with makeup you may already have.

The graphic eye

The cat eye gets graphic as seen at Oscar de la Renta. Keeping the rest of the face natural, adding a graphic shape is an update that takes the winged eyeliner look and makes it modern. There are no rules, so unleash your inner artist and try different shapes.

To make it very easy, use the top of a wedged makeup sponge as a guide to draw a straight line from the outer corner of the eye, outwards and upwards. Fill in to make a triangle as large or small as you like. Don’t worry if the top part is not straight. Use a pointed q-tip dipped in makeup remover to perfect the edges.

I recommend using a very sharp gel eyeliner pencil for this look. A liquid liner will be much more difficult to manipulate unless you are an expert. Keep the rest of the face neutral like I did in this look. Let your eyes be the focal point.

Dark matte lips

Update your lip color this fall with a darker shade. It doesn’t have to be like the super Goth looking lips as seen on the runways at Marc Jacobs. Bordeaux, merlot or anything in between will look modern as long as it’s matte. Here’s a tip to make your favorite wine-colored lipstick matte: Use your finger to tap your lips with powder blush after applying lipstick. Make sure to cancel out any redness in the skin and pair it with a strong brow. I like to add some blush when doing such a dark lip, especially if you are pale, so you don’t look washed out.

Here are some of my favorite shades new this fall;

Dior Poison, Lipstick Queen velvet lip glide in Toy, MAC retro matte liquid in High dragon

Fresh Healthy Skin

I loved seeing the fresh healthy skin the models were sporting at the fall 2016 shows. No contour, no iridescent highlighting, just healthy fresh natural skin. You can still highlight your cheekbones with some rich cream or serum on top of the makeup.

TIP: To make your skin look fresh and natural, apply a lightweight foundation and mist with water or Rose water (my favorite) to help the makeup settle and keep it fresh and dewy. Top cheekbones with a slick of Egyptian magic cream.
