After a particularly frustrating and long day on set (model was 2 hours late, we had to hurry to catch the light) the hair stylist I was working with on the photo shoot suggested we go to Soulcycle to “sweat it out” she said. Normally I run to de-stress, and usually in the morning, but after a long day…I just want a glass of wine! And so I politely declined, making some sort of lame excuse, like I had to wash my brushes and make dinner so not enough time. The next morning she arrived on set looking fresh, glowing and calm. (and I was just tired!)

There must be something to this spinning craze, I thought. But I just couldn’t imagine why anyone would want to be stuck in a room with pounding music biking like a maniac to…nowhere since it’s a stationary bike. I’d take running outside any day. Loud music, sweaty crowds are not my thing, well unless it’s a marathon and the loud music is coming from my earphones and we are actually running in a direction like 26.2 miles somewhere.

So it was with great trepidation that I joined my friend (an amazing athlete) to her spinning class. Ten minutes into the class and I was bored. Yes it was getting my heart pumping but it was very repetitive. Twenty minutes pass and my thighs are starting to burn. But then something happens, those endorphins start flowing like the runner’s high and all of a sudden I feel invinceable. The music is great, my legs are moving, I’m dancing on the bike. I GET it! The rest of the class flew by and at the end of an hour, I too was glowing! (ok maybe sweating) The next morning I felt energized and went off to a Yoga class.

I guess it’s all about trying new things. All the fitness gurus tell us that we need to change our workout routines to see results and maintain balance.

Have you tried spinning?
