bermudaPink sand, surreal turquoise sea, fragrant blossoms, white ridged roofs, winding narrow roads, adorable pink houses…these are Bermuda.

If you’re like me I love to bring back something from my travels. Something that will remind me of my trip every time I see it. Forget the silly t-shirts made in China, I want to bring back something special , exclusive and made in the place I am visiting.

During a recent trip to Bermuda I had the pleasure of discovering Lili Bermuda, an exclusive perfumery where scents evoking Bermuda are created.
IMG_8967Tucked away down a narrow alley in the historic town of St.George’s is the Bermuda perfumery, housed in a gorgeous  historic Bermuda home named Stewart Hall. Your senses are immediately delighted as you enter the fragrant rooms and tour the garden.
I was greeted by the lovely Isabelle Ramsay- Brackstone , the owner and perfumer of Lili Bermuda since 2004. While giving me a tour of her charming perfumery, she likened the creation of perfume to an artist painting a canvas. Using a blend of essential oils she carefully balances the scent to create a very unique and beautiful perfume. Like a wine, there are top notes that you smell immediately and other notes that will linger on your skin as time passes. Once she has found the perfect balance the scent is placed in large bottles using only alcohol to process and harmonize the oils over 6-8 weeks. The perfumes are bottled and packaged on the premises by hand.Lily Room

The day I visited , Mrs. Ramsay- Brackstone was debuting her newest fragrance creation, Calypso. Notes of loquat, seagrass, neroli and cedar, intrinsic to Bermuda, give this scent a fresh , dynamic and youthful feeling. It is part of the unisex Water Collection.IMG_8991

There are eight fragrances for women, five for men and three unisex fragrances. It was difficult to choose but I fell in love with Petals, a heady fragrance of White Honeysuckle, Jasmine and Orange Flower. For my man I chose 64 W , with notes of Crisp Grapefruit, Sage and Bermuda Cedar (which I actually might wear myself it’s so delicious).

I hope one day you will visit the magical island of Bermuda, but until then you can breathe in it’s scents via Lili Bermuda, and be sure you have a unique and hand made fragrance.

  1. Beautifully written!Your description transported me to Bermuda! I love the very pretty packaging of the perfumes as well.

  2. I am always looking for a special souvenir when I travel and this lovely perfume is just the sort of thing I would love to find – your description almost had me packing my bags for Bermuda! Lili Bermuda is definitely on my radar now;

  3. Your pictures really do capture Bermuda; people usually think photographs have been Photoshopped or filtered, but it really looks like that! I like 64, too–it’s very fresh and I love that it truly comes from Bermuda cedar, which is only found in Bermuda. As a long-time avoider of perfumes, I was stunned to find that I really loved Coral and Petals. They smell like freshly-cut grass and real flowers. Bravo on your find!
