Contouring, once a makeup technique used only by makeup artists and highly skilled drag queens, has gone mainstream. We can thank countless YouTube tutorials and one very famous Instagram selfie (by someone infamous for selfies) for starting this trend of expertly smearing brown contouring makeup and then blending it to reveal an altogether chiseled look (which takes about 45 minutes to perfect.) But this is nothing new. Makeup artists have been applying darker powders or foundations under the cheekbones of models for years. What is new is the arsenal of new products that cosmetic companies have come out with to satisfy our hunger for contouring!

This makes everyday contouring an absolute breeze. The shades that are available today are vast and match every skin tone. It’s a far cry from the days when only MAC made a powder named Sculpt that was matte and pretty good for carving out a cheekbone. Other than that it was up to you to find a darker shade that worked as a contour.

In this video, I wanted to show you how quick and easy it is to add a little dimension to your face. It may not be something you would want to do everyday, but if you are going to be photographed, I highly recommend trying it. This super easy technique requires only a very light hand and a product suited to your skin tone. I don’t recommend using your bronzer as many have orange undertones and you want to mimic the natural shading of your skin, and orange is not a natural shade color!

The only other thing to remember is to use discretion. If your face is already angular or gaunt, maybe you don’t need any shading at all. As for your nose, you may also feel it is already slim enough. Shading along the jawline is great for those of us who see our jawlines, well shall we say, less sharp than in previous years ( I’m including myself in this.)

I hope you like it.
