I love a classic red lip but there is another shade that can be just as chic, and that is plum. A plum lip is a twist on a classic and blends particularly well with fall clothing. Worn as an accent, any shade ranging from rich eggplant to pinky plums can elevate an outfit.
For a statement making, rich dark lip like the one I’m wearing here, I kept the rest of the makeup subdued. An even skin tone, (here I am wearing NARS sheer glow foundation in Sante Fe and warm ivory 3 intensive skin serum concealer from Bobbi Brown) is essential as plums or purple tones highlight imperfections like dark under eye circles. A well-defined brow ( Hourglass sculpting pencil in warm brunette) and a touch of brown eye shadow ( MAC swiss chocolate) in the eye socket to define is enough to keep it looking modern. Mascara and a soft pink blush finish the look. I outlined and filled in the lip with a plum lip liner ( plum from Mary Kay) as a base and to help lipstick last longer. The lipstick is a gorgeous dark plum from YSL Rouge Pur Couture the Mats in Prune Virgin, topped with Dior Addict lip gloss in Flash to intensify and add sheen.
If statement lips like the one above are not your thing, a classic plum lip in a matte texture is infinitely wearable. The matte texture keeps it looking modern. Pictured here is YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in Prune Virgin. I also love this shade on nails, like the one I’m wearing here in Miss Independent from Deborah Lippmann.
For a light daytime look a berry lip stain pairs well with statement making nails. Here I am wearing Bite beauty lush fruit lip gloss in Kir Royale. Bite beauty is made in Canada and is made from natural ingredients. The fruit lip glosses have delicious scents and are infused with real fruit oils!
