Here at Blush & Beyond we are very into running and each year we sign up for more races. So far Alix and I have done several half marathons, the full marathon, countless 5 and 10ks, the color run and the foam run! It’s not so much to compete but to have a great time being physically active. Each race is an experience onto itself and at the same time we are staying in shape and continuing to challenge our bodies and our minds.
This weekend we gathered a selection of popular drugstore long lasting lipsticks, glosses and waterproof mascaras and put them through the ultimate test of endurance the Ragnar Relay! What is a Ragnar Relay? It’s 31 hours (more or less) straight of running in a relay team of 12 runners from Miami to Key West no sleep, no showers and tons of fun!
When else, I thought, would I have 31 straight hours with a group of women in a confined space (our rented van) to try out these products, get their opinions and really see how long they last. We all had a great time trying them out and looking fab while we ran our different legs of the course, even if they were sometimes at 3 am in the dark and no one could see us, we all still felt a little more glamorous! So for our very scientific trials we tested 5 lip products, two mascaras and one concealer and here are our results:
Alix tried Maybelline Super Stay 24 2-step color in So Pearly Pink
Verdict: It may last long but after a few minutes it’s incredibly drying and starts to form little balls on the lips. It drove Alix crazy and so she removed it after her first run….
I tried L’Oreal Infallible le Gloss 8 hour in Barely Nude
Verdict: It feels smooth and not sticky and is a very flattering color. Only problem-it lasted through my first run of 7 miles and about an hour after. Total time worn and still visible-3 hours.
Sumita tried Maybelline Super Stay 14hr Lipstick in Ultimate blush
Verdict: Felt good on the lips, not dry and lasted at least two runs and time in between. Definitely longer than 14 hours! A winner!
Liv- Mor also tried Maybelline Super Stay 14hr Lipstick in Please Stay Plum.
Verdict: Again a very long lasting color even after sweating, drinking water and sleeping! The color was very flattering (Liv-Mor is blonde, blue-eyed with fair skin) and she liked it so much she reapplied before her third run.
Ana tried L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last 24 hr Lip Color in Neverending Nutmeg
Verdict: She didn’t mind that it felt somewhat dry at first because if you applied plenty of the moisturizing second step it felt good on the lips. She LOVED the color and it lasted well into the race…although eating did make it wear off. (Ana is fair complected with dark hair and hazel/green eyes.)
Rosario tried L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black
Verdict: This mascara stayed put throughout the ENTIRE race! Rosario ran to the finish line with her gorgeous full lashes, no streaks in sight! A winner hands down!
I also tried L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga mascara and Maybelline Fit concealer under the eyes.
Verdict: The mascara lasts forever but didn’t really give me the look of a Japanese Manga( maybe that’s a good thing). The concealer, although it’s not marketed as long lasting, did last at least 12 hours even while sweating! A true winner!
