IMG_8504Summer is here and the heat and humidity along with it. Great for days at the beach but not so great for keeping your makeup looking fresh. I should be an expert at this being that I work mostly in humidity soaked Miami! Long shoot days on the beach are common in my work, which sounds much more glamorous than it is! I have to keep the models looking fresh and glowing , not slick and melty, all the while trying not to look myself like a wet hot mess.( which doesn’t always work on my end, I’m usually found hiding under my hat!)  So I thought you might want a few tips on keeping yourself looking great whatever hot destination summer might take you.`

I would say that less is usually more in humid climates. If you can, avoid foundation altogether and just use a concealer where needed. I like the Effacernes from Lancome which is a waterproof under eye concealer. Otherwise try using a BB or CC cream or oil free tinted moisturizer. ( Laura Mercier’s oil free tinted moisturizer is in my kit) I would also stick to cream blushes and bronzers as these blend easily into the skin and won’t streak if you are sweaty. Although Cargo is now carrying a waterproof powder blush that I can’t wait to try. I have always loved their bronzers as they look very realistic.

For your eyes a waterproof liner and waterproof mascara are a must. I use L’Oreal Voluminous waterproof mascara ( in photo above) , I find it easy to build up this mascara without it clumping. Try using a cream eyeshadow, such as Bobbi Brown’s long wearing shadow stick, as a wash of subtle color followed by lining your eyes with the waterproof liner and blending with a q-tip.

For the lips , a lip stain or a matte lipstick will last longer than a gloss and keep you looking fresh. For a subtle color apply with your fingers and just press into the lips. A little lip balm on top for moisture if needed.

So how to keep this all looking great as the day wears on and the humidity soars? I take a nod from the Japanese and use blotting papers. ( mine are from Boscia) Adding powder on a hot day will just look cakey so keep your glow on but in just the right places by blotting as a touch up. You can also try a makeup setting spray which can help your makeup last a little longer, I have the Urban Decay All Nighter settiing spray in my kit.

Last but not least … enjoy your summer and may your makeup meltdown no longer.
